Montessori Musings

“It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe. She must prepare herself, and truly work at it..”. Maria Montessori.

As a professionally trained Clown and Montessori Educator, personal critical and creative writings are essential ingredients to my practice and overall learning process. I have been writing almost daily since 2017 when I first began the morning pages, with a long history of journalling, dreaming, writing short stories and poems as well as political and philosophical reflections on the world and my relationship to/with it. Prior to 2017 I had an online presence, routinely writing for online blogs and publications, including Huffington Post, however I soon drew away from this as I wanted to critically question and analyse if this was the best use of my time, energy and resources in an increasingly polarised online world during an age of extreme algorithmic separation, conflict and division. All these years later I believe my voice to be an important one and have decided to bring together this portfolio, as well as uploading many of the writings that have been personal to me for all these years. If I don’t use my voice how can I be part of the conversation? I hope you engage, enjoy and (most importantly), that you have eaten good food today! - Jay/Astro.
